Developments: Recovery of adult learning activities

EAEA member, Dansk Folkeoplysnings Samråd (DFS) concluded that the adult learning and education (ALE) situation has slightly improved in Denmark in the last year. According to them, many adult learning activities recovered after being shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the moment the majority of ALE related initiatives in Denmark are focused on sustainability, democracy, and the formation of the individual. In Denmark, civil society plays an active role in policymaking. However, no new policies or other significant changes have occurred in adult education in 2021.

At the time of the survey, none of EAEA’s Danish members have confirmed their involvement in the CONFINTEA VII process.

Sustainability is one of the key focus areas

DFS views social and environmental sustainability as a significant topic and has developed strategies to promote it in their working procedures and learning programs. Nevertheless, the view is that there is still room for improvement regarding the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) in the ALE sector in Denmark.

They underline key areas of work for 2022 to be sustainability and SDGs, furthering democratic conversion, and revision of legislation to secure funding to ALE. Improving conditions and securing stable funding for local learning associations is one of the main recommendations to the current government.
