Developments: The struggle for recognition of adult education
Adult education in Georgia has undergone only slight changes in the last year. Although a reform in 2019 recognised learning outcomes achieved in non-formal education, certification remains a major obstacle to popularising adult learning and education across the country.
The situation of adult education in Georgia has slightly improved in the last year. There are no new policies in place and there have only been small changes in the adult education sector. In 2019 the Georgian government approved a reform that recognised learning outcomes which have been achieved within non-formal education. Although many adult learning and education (ALE) providers acknowledge this as an important first step, there is still a long way to go until adult education receives appropriate recognition in Georgia. In Georgia civil society is rarely consulted in policy making. The Georgian Adult Education Network (GAEN) is not aware of any new initiatives for the Sustainable Development Goals that were implemented in the last year.
